Effective Small Bathroom Designs Can Open Up Any Space
It can be frustrating to have the bathroom of your dreams in mind but not have the space to make it come true. Fortunately, there are many creative small bathroom designs that can open up small areas and still give you the feel of comfort and luxury without the square footage.
By choosing the right features, colors, furnishings and placement, you can make the most of the space you have and get all the functionality and style of a larger bathroom. Take some time to consider different ideas and find something that will transform your small space into a big achievement.
Corner Placement
If you are planning on doing some small bathroom remodeling, your number one concern is probably making your small space look bigger. That can be easily achieved by simply placing your fixtures differently. Make use of your corners as much as you can, because there is often a lot of lost space that can be used which will free up more space in the center of the bathroom, making it easier to maneuver.
For a powder room that has no shower or bath, look into a corner sink with vanity. It can fit into the corner nicely, alleviating the hassle and tight fit that protruding sinks often provide. If that's not possible, consider a pedestal sink and make up for the missing cabinetry by adding a corner caddie or a storage unit that fits over the toilet.
For bathrooms with showers, opt for a standing shower unit instead of a bathtub, and get a pre-fabricated corner stall, which will again make use of the corner and stay out of the way. If you must have a tub, an old fashioned style claw-foot tub often takes less room than a more modern box style. You can add design with a bright, but not too heavily patterned shower curtain or perhaps a window treatment to accent any natural light you might have. Also, you will want to avoid mood lighting in small spaces since it will result in a dark bathroom, so instead look into spot lights and light up your space well to make it feel cheerful not depressing. One good sized painting to add some color and design, or even a single plant if you have the space and light for it is sufficient to add style without excess. Finally, keep your fixtures simple. Anything ornate or overly decorative will overwhelm the small space, but simple, clean designs will make it look modern and neat. |
